An Intimate Portal: Antony Hegarty Interviewed

This was a wonderful interview to do. Antony is an incredibly intelligent and talent person, so to be able to discuss critical career moments and thought-provoking ideas was a treat. You can read the Q&A here.

Beyond The Hits...

October 17, 2014 Cian Traynor

I've really enjoyed being a part of the ongoing Quietus series Beyond The Hits, where writers explain why certain songs by a certain artist mean so much to them. Recently I've written about the Pixies, Aphex Twin and, last week, Leonard Cohen.

Start-up Ireland

September 13, 2014 Cian Traynor

For today's Irish Times Weekend Review, I spoke to some brilliant people with inspiring stories. They all took a simple idea and turned into a successful business during the recession. The printed edition has been cut and condensed, making it read a little hurriedly, but you can read the full version here.

Robots

September 3, 2014 Cian Traynor

I wrote about the future of robots for the Irish Times Magazine, which ran as a cover story this past weekend. This was a fascinating subject to get immersed in, giving me the opportunity to speak to some incredibly smart people. Some were convinced that robots will evolve into an advanced species capable of everything humans are... and much more. I'm still undecided about whether humanity should be worried or not. Netfix

The impact of online data on our lives is generating a lot of discussion at the moment, particularly after the recent leaking of private photos of celebrities. It's also touched on from a different light in this profile of Mary Beard, who ended up writing a character reference for her troll after an ill-judged, widely publicised tweet ruined his reputation.

This is an area I explored recently in a feature for the Irish Times Magazine. Online reputation management, it turns out, is a thriving business. From university students desperate to expunge inappropriate photos to doctors blighted by anonymous comments, increasing numbers of people have been attempting to regain control over their name online.

Mortified

August 1, 2014 Cian Traynor

In what could be the ultimate act of masochism, I unearthed my teenage diaries and tried to make sense of the growing pains that defined who I once was. This was inspired by the stage show Mortified, the founder of which offered me insightful support and guidance in digging through the past. You can read the article here: Morto for me
